FOR HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS
Please note: If you are a tenant, you should always contact your property administrator if you are experiencing a lack of heating.
Start by checking the valve pin
The valve pin can become stuck if the radiator has not been used for an extended period, for example during the summer.
1. Remove the thermostat
2. Locate the small valve pin behind the thermostat
3. Gently press the valve pin in and allow it to spring back out a few times
4. Reinstall the thermostat
Bleed the radiator
If there is air trapped inside the radiator, it may prevent the heat from circulating properly.
1. Locate the bleed valve at the opposite end of the radiator from the thermostat
2. Have an old towel or a small container ready, as some old water may escape
3. Carefully open the valve using a bleed key
4. Allow the air to escape
5. Close the valve again once water starts to flow
If neither air nor water comes out when bleeding the radiator, it may indicate that there is insufficient water in the building’s heating system or that the water pressure is too low.
In that case, contact your property administrator, who can help investigate the issue.
Still no heat?
If the radiator still does not heat up, or if the gland packing needs to be replaced, please contact your property administrator, who can arrange for a qualified plumber to assist.
