TDC has announced that it will phase out the copper network in Denmark by 2030. This means that internet and telephony services delivered via copper cables will gradually be discontinued.
This affects properties where copper cables are used for systems such as elevators, alarm systems, building management systems (CTS), and automatic fire alarm systems (ABA). It is typically older buildings that still rely on the copper network. Once the network is shut down, these connections will cease to function unless they are replaced with a new data solution.
The process of shutting down the first copper exchanges has already begun, and the remaining exchanges will be phased out gradually until 2030.
At present, Hovedstadens beredskab (the Capital Region’s emergency services) have stated that TDC will notify property owners approximately six months before the copper lines are decommissioned. However, it is advisable to find an alternative solution well in advance.
