How does an association manage if the power goes out for several days, or if water suddenly stops flowing? A new guide from Styrelsen for Samfundssikkerhed (the Danish Civil Protection Agency) aims to help housing cooperatives, owners associations, and landowners associations strengthen their local emergency preparedness and be better equipped to handle crises.
The guide is a voluntary supplement to the household emergency preparedness already recommended by the authorities, which ensures that each household can manage for at least 72 hours. But crises rarely affect only individuals, which is why it makes good sense to view preparedness as a shared responsibility.
Within the association, you might discuss who has special needs, who has access to batteries, power banks, etc., and how you can support one another if a crisis occurs.
The guide includes practical advice and examples of how to organize locally, with roles, contact lists, building overviews, and action plans for various scenarios such as power outages, loss of internet, or water supply disruptions.
